Curriculum Collection
The Curriculum Collection, located on the 2nd floor balony, contains children's and young adult fiction and nonfiction, textbooks (K-12), curriculum guides, kits, selected media materials and other teaching resources. Most of the items are available for checkout. All materials are included in the library catalog.
The Henrietta Maizner Hochschild Collection contains more than 3,000 books of children's literature published between 1860 and 1970. Materials from the collection are listed in the library catalog. Some Hochschild books are shelved in the Curriculum collection and can be checked out but many are located in the Rare Books or Special Collections area of the library.
Catalog search tips for locating children's books
Method 1
- Limit your search to items in the Curriculum Collection.
Here is an example of a search for children's books on the topic of disabilities.
Method 2
- Use the word "juvenile".
Try a keyword search combining a subject with the word "juvenile". This works because catalogers use the terms juvenile literature or juvenile fiction to describe children's books. For example, children's books on the topic of death can be found with the following search:

- Find textbooks with the phrase "study and teaching".
Combine the topic with the phrase "study and teaching". For example, geometry textbooks can be found with the following keyword search:
